Mural Application Information
The Burlington Odd Fellows are seeking a Vermont-based artist to design and complete a public outdoor mural. There will be a two phase selection process beginning with this open call for qualifications. In phase two up to six finalists will be selected and granted a stipend to create full proposals. Final selection will take place in June with a goal of completing the mural before October.
The Odd Fellows is a fraternal order which has been active in Burlington since 1845. Our members seek to fulfil the values of friendship, love, and truth through community building and mutual aid. We run the North End Food Pantry which provides free food, clothing, and diapers to 500 people each month. We own the building at 1416 North Avenue in Burlington's New North End.

In the summer of 2023 we hope to transform our building with a 300-500 square-foot exterior mural facing North Avenue. We are looking for art which speaks to the themes of the Odd Fellows, the Pantry, and the community. The project has a budget of up to $15,000 thanks in part to a generous partnership with the City of Burlington. Prior mural experience is strongly preferred. All artists are encouraged to apply.
The mural should encompass the front of the building, with an option to continue around the corner on the south face of the building, budget permitting. The mural will incorporate Odd Fellows symbols as well as images highlighting the community of the New North End. The mural will be coated with a protective coating which will be reapplied as needed for a minimum of 10 years. The Odd Fellows will compensate the artist if their services are required for maintenance.
In this initial phase the Odd Fellows request that interested artists submit their qualifications in the form of:
